Tragically, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa’s success was short-lived. The weather on Everest suddenly turned bad while descending from the summit and the first Nepalese woman to reach the summit of Mt Everest passed away.

The Government of Nepal declared her a national hero and named the 7315 meters high Jasamba Mountain of Mahalangur Range as Pasang Lhamu Peak, also renamed Trisuli Dunche Road as Pasang Lhamu Highway.
