Sarangkot is a beautiful village located inside Sarangkot Development Committee in Kaski. It is 6 km far from Pokhara and most come to Sarangkot via Pokhara. In the southern part of Sarangkot lies Lamachhure, Hemja in the eastern part lies Kaskikot, and in the northern direction we can see Dhaulagiri in the far west. Annapurna range is visible when the weather is clear on the same side. Once you reach Sarangkot top it is clear that it is the highest point on the Pokhara Valley rim with views across the country.
Another main attraction to Sarangkot is to spend an hour in the sky paragliding with fantastic views of the mountains and the city below, a long zip-flyer, sunrise, sunset, Sarangkot View Tower we can see all the Pokhara view. On a clear day, the tower provides unmatched views of the Annapurna Massif, Fewa Lake (Nepal’s second-largest lake), and Pokhara City.
Hiking in Sarangkot
Hiking starts towards the Hilltop of Saragkot from north of Lakeside through a trail enveloped by forests and it is about 11 kilometers away from Lakeside. This steep hike to the top will take you about 2-3 hours (depending upon your speed) of uphill hiking to reach Sarangkot. It is one of the shortest and easiest hiking from Pokhara, perfect for those who are short on time.
Sarangkot is a famous tourist destination of Nepal best known for its vivid sunrise and sunset views of the Annapurna South 7195, Annapurna I 7647, Machhapuchure 6997, Annapurna III 7555, Annapurna II 7937, Annapurna IV 7525, Lamjung Himal 6986, Fewa lake and Pokhara. Sarangkot’s Temple of Shiva and Bhume Kalika are also popular sites for visitors. Because of its height, all the beautiful scenes can be viewed from here which is the main attraction of this place.
At 1592 meters Sarangkot Top Village is located 800 m higher than the Pokhara valley. It has an almost 360-degree radius of views of the Annapurna Mountain with Fishtail, Dhaulagiri, and other surrounding ranges of Himalaya and Pokhara city below.
You can hike through the day but for mesmerizing sunrise and sunset, you can allocate your time accordingly. Hiking on this trial can be done throughout the year but the suggested seasons are spring and autumn. These seasons guarantee pleasant views.
Local life
Agriculture is the main occupation for local people in and around Sarangkot. In Sarangkot traditionally homegrown organic vegetables, rice, grain, dairy, and some local Himalayan meat and spice farming is widespread. This is supplemented by domestic and imported items bought from the Pokhara marketplace.
Sarangkot has rich cultural and ethnic diversity, including Gurung, Chhetri, Brahman, Newar, etc. The main religions are Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. The main festivals in Sarangkot throughout the year include Dashain, Tihar, Teej, Loshar, and Janai Purnima.
How to get there?
Taking the steep hike from Pokhara up to Sarangkot is also an option. Just a short scenic hike through small villages and jungle from the main tourist area of Pokhara or a 45-minute taxi ride or by cable car. From Pokhara, you can get a bus, Jeep and taxi.
